Many people feel as if they need to pick between travelling and keeping their bank account in order, when in fact, you can do both!
You see, it’s not necessary to spend a lot to experience a lot and we’re here to prove it.
Read on to see our top tips on how to travel on a budget – the 2019 guide.
Consider alternative destinations
Many want to experience the beaches of Bali or the sunset of Bora Bora. But, what if we told you that the sand is just as sandy and the sunset is just as magnificent in other, cheaper destinations?
One of the first things to consider when travelling on a budget is your destination. Less expensive doesn’t necessarily mean less beautiful – do your research!
Plan around off-peak times
Look into the most popular times to visit your destination, and then plan to travel just before or after these dates. This is what’s called shoulder season; you’ll still make amazing memories but you won’t have to break the bank to make them.
Treasure experiences, save the expenses
Take advantage of all of the free attractions in your destination. Be it museums, historic sites or a simple beach walk – you don’t need to splash the cash to create experiences.
Be sure to look online for any free events ongoing during your stay; they’re a great way to truly embrace your destinations culture and get chatting to locals!
Public transport is your friend
Would you hail a taxi every day just to get around your local town? Then it’s smart not to get into the habit when you’re away! When travelling on a budget, it’s important to do as the locals do and grab a bus, train, walk or cycle.
Eat in, not out
Head to the local market and pick up some inexpensive local, and authentic, delicacies. By doing this, you’ll spend a percentage of what you would spend in any of the tourist ridden restaurants, and you’ll be able to experience a snippet of the areas true food culture.
Locals know best
Get chatting to the individuals who know your chosen destination inside out – the locals!
Whether you’re looking to treat yourself to an authentic meal in a local restaurant or you want to explore some areas off the beaten track – the locals will be able to point you in the right, and less expensive, direction.
